Tonja Buford-Bailey is a distinguished track and field coach with a legacy of excellence as an athlete and a mentor. An Olympic medalist and former world-class sprinter, Tonja brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion to her coaching, making her a leading figure in developing elite track and field athletes.
As an athlete, Tonja was one of the best in the world, specializing in the 400m hurdles. She represented the United States in multiple international competitions, including the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, where she won a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles, as well as earning several national titles and World Championship medals during her career.
After serving as a college track and field coach for over 15 years, Tonja founded the Tonja Buford-Bailey Track Club (TBBTC), where she combines her personal experiences and technical expertise to develop young, elite athletes in the sport. Tonja is dedicated to creating a high-performance environment where athletes can excel at both the junior and elite levels. She works closely with athletes specializing in sprints and hurdles, helping them reach their fullest potential.
Tonja's coaching philosophy focuses on technical excellence, mental fortitude, and commitment to personal growth, providing athletes with the tools they need to succeed at the highest levels. Whether mentoring young athletes just beginning their journey or guiding experienced competitors preparing for major competitions, Tonja’s leadership and dedication to the sport have made her a highly respected figure in the track and field community.
